While the Government of Alberta investing funds to explore a North Calgary/Airdrie Regional Health Centre in the 2023 capital plan was taken as a step in the right direction, the Airdrie Health Foundation feels that the province needs to do a lot more a lot sooner.
The Airdrie Health Foundation first began in 2010 after founders Jeff and Michelle Bates’s son passed away during a health emergency, when the couple couldn’t reach an emergency care facility during a night time snow storm.
One of the foundation’s main priorities has been to advocate for a hospital in Airdrie since its inception. Their biggest success in increasing health care options for residents of Airdrie came when Airdrie’s urgent care facility converted to 24/7 operations in 2017.
